Time to become more comfortable

It is a fair question and often a confusing one. We hear these conditions thrown around in the beauty world, but what do they really mean?

The two are actually very different things, and know which applies, can change how you take care of your skin and how comfortable it looks and feels.

Let’s clean up the confusion and give you some practical ways to calm your skin, regardless of which category you fall.

Sensitive or sensitized skin: what is sensitive skin?

Sensitive skin is usually something we were born. It’s in our genes. Just as some people have curly hair or are susceptible to allergies, others inherit the skin that is more reactive.

In general, sensitive skin tends to have a thinner protective barrier and more nerve endings close to the surface. It is easily activated by things such as odor, raw substances, warmth or even spicy food. It often runs in families and can appear in addition to circumstances such as eczema, rosacea or hay fever.

If you have had a skin that has been easily rinsed since his childhood or you should always be picky about skin care products because most of your skin itch or burn, chances are that your skin is inherent inherent.

Sensitive or sensitized skin: what is sensitized skin?

Sensitive skin, on the other hand, is the skin that started well but is weakened over time. In the beginning it was not necessarily sensitive, but over time it became reactive. That reactivity is usually a sign that the protective barrier of the skin – the outer shield that holds moisture and irritates – is damaged.

The most common culprits behind sensitive skin are:

  • To be overlookedWith scrubs or acids
  • Use too many hard treatmentsSuch as peeling, retinoids or benzoyl peroxide at the same time
  • Skin care and cosmetic ingredients with known irritantsSuch as scents, mineral oil and other hard ingredients
  • Environmental stressorsSuch as pollution, wind, sun exposure, allergens or temperature changes
  • Lifestyle factorsSuch as high stress, lack of sleep or smoking
  • MedicalIncluding chemotherapy or radiation
  • Hormonal changes

In this case your skin is not sensitive by nature. Instead, it is sensitized by external influences. The good news is that, in contrast to real sensitive skin, which is with you for life, the sensitized skin can often be repaired.

Sensitive or sensitized skin? Important differences

Let us elaborate on how you can see the difference between these two types of skin problems.

Sensitive

  • Usually lifelong
  • Coupled with genetics or medical disorders
  • Often comes with other sensitivities (allergies, asthma, etc.)
  • Always reactive, no matter how gentle the routine
  • Reactions happen consistent with the same triggers (foods, fabrics, cosmetic ingredients)
  • Symptoms are often redness, dryness and itching
  • Reactions are usually immediately, but usually not serious
  • Your skin has probably been reactive since childhood
  • Weather changes often influence your skin

Sensitalized skin

  • Often develops quickly – your skin was not always reactive, but it is now
  • Located by lifestyle, products or environment
  • Can come and go, depending on how you treat it
  • Usually improves when the skin barrier is healed
  • Reactions can be unpredictable and vary in the intensity
  • You can burn, experience stabbing or serious redness
  • Products that used to work well now cause irritation
  • Your skin feels raw, tight or uncomfortable

In short, the sensitive skin is who you are, while sensitized skin is what happened to you.

How you can ensure sensitive skin

Create certain substances itching and redness in some with sensitive skin. Choose more natural options such as cotton and bamboo. Only use odor -free skin care and watch out for spicy food. The more you know about what your flare-ups activate, the more you can help your skin stay comfortable.

For stubborn, red and inflamed areas, use our restorative skin balm at night.
