Wendy’s Introduces Tendys — But the 6 New Dipping Sauces Might Be the Best Part

If you’re driving by your local Wendy’s this month and happen to notice something wonky with the big red sign, it might not be your eyes playing tricks. The quick-service chain is rebranding some of its restaurants as “Tendy’s” to mark the launch of its newest dippable menu option, Wendy’s Tendys.

What are Wendy’s Tendys?

According to Wendy’s, the breaded and crispy fried chicken tenders are made with all-white-meat chicken and a seasoned coating. Of course, as great as chicken tenders might be on their own, for many diners, it’s all about the dip. So, for its new Tendys, Wendy’s is also rolling out a slate of six new (or updated) sauces. Here’s how the brand describes them:

• Wendy’s Signature:The ultimate Tendys companion. Wendy’s signature creamy sauce with hints of black pepper, hot sauce and tons of savory goodness.
• Sweet Chili:Sweet and subtly spicy sauce with a touch of tang including notes of sriracha, garlic and ginger.
• Scorchin’ Hot:Creamy hot sauce with a heat that builds.
• Creamy Ranch:Extra creamy and extra rich. The GOAT for all dipping needs.
• Honey BBQ:A little bit sweet, a little bit smoky. A lot of barbecue.
• Honey Mustard:Sweet honey and lightly tangy mustard with a rich Dijon flavor.

But the sauce inside is only one part of the upgrade: Wendy’s also made the new sauce cups deeper to accommodate more dipping or, as they put it, “maximum dunkability.”

How can you order Wendy’s Tendys?

Wendy’s Tendys are available à la carte or as part of a combo meal and come in orders of three or four pieces, with a choice of two dipping sauces. The container even features a cutout for your sauce cup. They’re also available as a two-piece Wendy’s Kids’ Meal with one cup of sauce. And as of this week, they’re being permanently added to menus at Wendy’s locations nationwide.

However, Wendy’s has attempted chicken tenders before, appearing and disappearing from menus as far back as 2007. Fast food fans have proven though, that these days, chicken is an increasingly popular choice. Maybe this time around, with a catchy new name, the strips will stick.
